American University Emerging Global Leader Scholarship

About
The American University (AU) Emerging Global Leader Scholarship is aimed at excellent international students who desire to attain a Bachelor’s Degree in the United States and are committed to positive social and civic change. IT is targeted at students who plan on returning to their home country after studies to help improve underprivileged communities in their respective countries.
Eligibility Criteria
The scholarship has preference for people who fall in any of the following categories:
1. International students who have overcome numerous impediments and challenges as well as those from varied and underrepresented global and socioeconomic backgrounds.
2. At least a 3.8 GPA equivalent (or in the top 10% of graduating class) for 9th-12th grades.
3. A proven commitment to governance, volunteerism, public service and to solving the needs of people in their home country.
4. At least 95 TOEFL iBT, 7.0 IELTS or 600 paper-based TOEFL

Citizens of United States, holders of dual citizenship of US and another country or permanent residents of USA are not eligible to apply.
Furthermore, applicants who have started any post-secondary schooling at another university in either their home country or the US are not eligible to apply.

Scholarship value
The AU EGL scholarship caters for all billable AU costs (full tuition, room and board). The scholarship therefore does not cater for non-billable costs like compulsory health insurance, books, airline tickets and miscellaneous expenses.
It is renewable for a total of four years of undergraduate study, grounded on sustained acceptable academic performance.

Instructions for application
In order to apply for this scholarship, the applicant must fill an application form online and add the required supporting documents by the 15th of December 2017 or by 15th January 2018 which is the last date.
