Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme for International Students

The Hong Kong PhD Fellowship scheme targets brilliant students from all over the globe to offer their PhD programs in some institutions in Hong Kong. It was established in 2009 by the Hong Kong Research Grants Council (RGC).

• The Education University of Hong Kong

• Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
• The University of Hong Kong

Eligibility Criteria
This scholarship is open to new full-time PhD applicants irrespective of the country they are coming from, their ethnic background or their work experience. Prospective applicants should show unmatched qualities in research, communication, leadership abilities and academic performance
Timeline
The deadline for submission is 1 Dec 2017 and the course starts in September of 2018
Scholarship value
The scholarship provides a yearly stipend of HK$240,000 (roughly US$30,000) and a conference and research-related travel allowance of HK$10,000 (roughly US$1,300) per year to each awardee for a period of up to three years. This means that if for any reason your PhD takes more than three years, you are likely not going to receive anything after the three years.

Instructions for application
Qualified applicants should first make a Preliminary Application online via the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme Electronic System (HKPFSES) to attain an HKPFS Reference Number. This should be done by 1 December 2017 at Hong Kong Time 12:00:00 before submitting applications for PhD admission to their preferred universities.
